Weekly Photo Challenge: Regret

Several years ago when my daughter was a toddler, I used to take her to the park almost every day to play after work. On this particular day, I took her out to ride her new tricycle. This new tricycle attracted many other children in the park and they would often go up to her (quite boldly) and try to ride the trike. Being a teacher at the time and seeing a “teachable moment”, I asked my highly dubious two-year old to share her trike with another child. As you can see from the photo, we BOTH regretted that decision! … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Regret

Weekly Photo Challenge: Hope

When I think of hope I think of our children. I think of the future thinkers, problem-solvers, leaders, writers, scientists, peace-keepers, soldiers and educators who will make not only our country and ultimately our planet grow and strive, but will secure the fate of mankind to continue to flourish and survive. As a former elementary school educator in New York City, I always had this hope in mind whenever I taught the many beautiful and wonderfully intelligent children of the Bronx. Week Photo Challenge: Simple

I am amazed at how people take simple objects and things and turn it into great works of art. While walking down an 8th Avenue fair in Manhattan one hot summer day, I came across such an artist who specializes in “metal art”. He takes bicycle and real engine parts, scrap metal, nuts, bolts, and screws and welds them together to truly create beautiful sculptures. He then polishes them all with wire brush and finishes the job by coating the sculpture with lacquer to prevent them from rusting. He’s very well known for creating Alien, Predator and Star Wars metal … Continue reading Week Photo Challenge: Simple

Weekly Photo Challenge: Peaceful

This World War II cemetery and memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer in Normandy, France was truly one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever visited. It was a beautiful, clear summer day and the tranquility and solemnity  of it all made a memorable impression on me. It reminded me that the freedom we all enjoyed was due to the great sacrifices made by these incredibly brave soldiers. Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Peaceful

Weekly Photo Challenge: Launch

As I child I was always interested in archery. I never got the opportunity to get into this sport/hobby throughout my youth. However, when I went to a resort in the Dominican Republic several years ago, one of the many activities offered was archery. I immediately took to it and upon my return back home, I searched online looking for information on archery groups in New York. I stumbled upon meetup.com and there I met Dee. She had organized a meetup group called New York City Archery Group. She was super friendly and extremely helpful to new archers to the … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Launch

Weekly Photo Challenge: Winter

Winter is my least favorite season as it brings in the cold and the occasional snow, causing havoc at times on the roads and at home. Shovels come out and the digging begins, salt and kitty litter is spread generously, and gas-powered snow blowers blare through the day, cascading flakes into the air. Still, it’s a time when everyone huddles close together, warm at home while sipping on frothy hot chocolate or some warm seasonal tea. For the adventurous types and young at heart, it’s a time for skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating and sledding down “treacherous” long hills. Winter ushers in … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Winter

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between

This has got to be the most photographed house in the Cotes-d’Amor region of France! While in the town of Plougrescant in Brittany, France, I saw this peculiar little house nestled in between these two giant rocks. I was totally amazed by it so I snapped away. Years later, I would see this house again in a beautiful photography book of France at my local Barnes & Noble store. I’ve also seen it countless times on the internet. So much for a unique and original picture. I guess I just dialed it in on this week’s challenge. Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Between
