Beyond: A WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge

Shortly after my 21st birthday, I was given a fantastic birthday present by a co-worker:  a 20 minute helicopter ride around New York City! I sat up front right next to the pilot as I snapped away a few pictures during the ride. I remember being so enthralled at seeing my neighborhood and high school from so high up. I remember midtown Manhattan and flying over the Hudson and East River. I wanted that flight to never end. The helicopter then started to fly away from Manhattan and towards the Statue of Liberty. I was not expecting that at all! … Continue reading Beyond: A WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge

Instagram Web Profiles

Today I stumbled upon a story on CNET regarding instagram and how they’re now starting to slowly roll out user profiles for the web this week. Immediately after reading this post, I went to instagram.com/cyanskies to see if I was one of the lucky ones to have a web profile up and was greeted with the following page: Bummed out, I tried my daughter’s and her profile wasn’t up yet. Figuring it would be up sooner or later during the week, I went about my business. Several hours later, just before going to bed, I decided to give it another … Continue reading Instagram Web Profiles

Stickygram Magnets!

As most of you know, I’ve been on a real Instagram kick for the past couple of months. I’ve been using my iPhone4s to take pictures of my travels and to document everything I encounter and see around me. With these little snapshots I really try and tell a story of where I’ve been. The pictures I take represent a small experience and slice of life while I’m on the road. Used in conjunction with my iPhone app, Momento, I can go back and time and not only read about, but see the places I’ve visited. One day I’ll pull … Continue reading Stickygram Magnets!

Instacanv.as Gallery Invite

A couple of months ago I blogged about how addicted I was to Instagram. Well, that addiction is in overdrive these past few weeks. I put down the app for a long time before picking it up again. I’m still having a great time with it, discovering a new way to take pictures with my iPhone. My poor Nikon D90 has not seen any action in a long time. Despite the big hoopla (and subsequent fears) about Facebook purchasing this tiny but highly popular upstart, I’m hopeful that Facebook won’t fix what’s not broken and allow us to have fun … Continue reading Instacanv.as Gallery Invite

Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrast

This is one of my earliest pictures I took with my Nikon FG camera back in the mid-80’s, circa ’84 or ’85 when I was a teenager. My friends Victor and Willie look over a book while waiting for an elevator in one of the buildings of Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. Without the fancy aid of an LCD screen to look at a shot before or after taking a picture like we’re so used to nowadays, I discovered when I got the prints that I had greatly underexposed my shots. This particular picture proved to be … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrast

Weekly Photo Challenge: Hope

When I think of hope I think of our children. I think of the future thinkers, problem-solvers, leaders, writers, scientists, peace-keepers, soldiers and educators who will make not only our country and ultimately our planet grow and strive, but will secure the fate of mankind to continue to flourish and survive. As a former elementary school educator in New York City, I always had this hope in mind whenever I taught the many beautiful and wonderfully intelligent children of the Bronx. Biltmore Providence and my iPhone 4s

I just recently got back from a business trip in Providence, RI. It was my first visit to this beautiful city and I wanted to take some great pictures in between my visits to the local schools. Unfortunately a few shots in, my battery died on my Canon G12! I was so upset. Having no other equipment, I decided to take some shots with the iPhone 4s. Much has been made about the stellar pictures this iPhone produces, even rivaling some point-and-shoot cameras and even a few DSLRs. I put that to the test in the days that I was … Continue reading Biltmore Providence and my iPhone 4s

Weekly Photo Challenge: Winter

Winter is my least favorite season as it brings in the cold and the occasional snow, causing havoc at times on the roads and at home. Shovels come out and the digging begins, salt and kitty litter is spread generously, and gas-powered snow blowers blare through the day, cascading flakes into the air. Still, it’s a time when everyone huddles close together, warm at home while sipping on frothy hot chocolate or some warm seasonal tea. For the adventurous types and young at heart, it’s a time for skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating and sledding down “treacherous” long hills. Winter ushers in … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Winter
